Bowie Knife

This is a bit of a departure from my usual work. A friend challenged me to build a bowie knife with him and this is the result! I enjoy delving into new styles and trying new things in bladesmithing, and this was certainly filled with a host of new problems to overcome.

The blade is 80CRV2 and the fittings are mild, with bog oak for the handle. I decided to use the pins as both decorative and functional features and ground the guard and handle in a hollow shape to add some interaction with shadow in the handle.

The sheath was made with an inlay of stingray skin as the owner of the knife is a collector of Nihonto. I stippled the leather to match the stingray skin and then dyed the sheath black to match the bog oak handle.
